In Loving Memory of Stephen H. Muss
August 4th, 1928 - August 23rd, 2025

Picture
Temple Emanu-El joins the Miami Beach community and the wider Jewish world in mourning the passing of our beloved friend, leader, and visionary, Stephen H. Muss. Stephen’s life was a testament to the power of dedication, generosity, and vision. From his early days in Brooklyn to becoming one of Miami Beach’s most influential figures, Stephen built more than buildings—he built community. His leadership helped preserve the beauty and spirit of South Beach, and his bold actions revitalized landmarks like the Fontainebleau Hotel.

But for us at Temple Emanu-El, Stephen’s greatest legacy was here within our walls. As a devoted Board Chair and passionate supporter, he safeguarded our congregation’s future, championed our programs, and reinded us that a synagogue is the heart of a community.

His love for Jewish life extended to the
Alexander Muss High School in Israel, where thousands of young people strengthened their connection to their heritage. Stephen’s warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched everyone who knew him. As we gather to remember him, may his life inspire us to dream big, give generously, and keep our traditions strong.

“May his memory be a blessing.”
